Speaking of street art, PSFK finally got around to stopping by the Outsiders NY show this past weekend. The exhibition is being put on by Steve Lazarides, who also represents Banksy, and is being held on Houston and Bowery at the Lazarides Gallery in Manhattan. Featuring some of the biggest names in the game, including Faile, JR, Jonathon Yeo, Invader, David Choe, Mark Jenkins, and Blu to name a few.
Most all of us have come to accept that street art can in fact be fine art. But until recently, it’s felt a bit forced, as if the idea of putting a ’street artist’ in a gallery was art in and of itself. But we were genuinely impressed with the Outsiders NY show – and believe that the space itself deserves some acknowledgment. The derelict storefront and basement complement the art in just the right way, a middle ground between gallery and street that manages to retain both grit and glamour.
