The Most Relaxing Room in the World

The Most Relaxing Room in the World

By Dan Gould on October 28, 2008

In a brazenly claim, researchers at the University of Hertfordshire have declared they have designed the world’s most relaxing room. Carefully designed elements of the room work in unison to crate this hyper-calming effect. The smell of lavender, deep green lighting and a blue, sky-like screen  all help to “turn thought inward” and eliminate stress.

This relaxation research has shown some interesting results,  such as that green light helps increase dopamine in the brain. The researchers hope to fine-tune what works best and share the information with designers who aim to make everyday environments more pleasing.

As Treehugger points out though, this artificial environment is uncannily similar to… nature. And perhaps bringing nature inside, or spending more time outside, is actually the way to go, rather than recreate a hi-tech fake version of the real thing.
