Kobe Bryant, one of the most popular NBA players in China, looks to grow his popularity with a new bilingual blog in China. Danwei points us to the Chinese / English blog that launched this week on Sina.com, one of the largest Internet portals in China. Within two days, Kobe’s first blog had accumulated 120,000+ views and 4800+ comments.
In his first posting, Kobe discusses how the bilingual blog will connect him with his Chinese fans:
I feel this blog really gives me the chance to connect directly with all of you — my Chinese fans. It’s kinda like staying close to you while I can not be in China right now in person because of the NBA Season.
Interestingly, Kobe also discusses his blog reading habits:
I check out blogs that are all over the “map”. From blogs about movies, to music, to fashion — I try to stay pretty connected to what is going on in the World. I like to read blogs or web-articles on other successful and competitive people. It helps me to learn what works and doesn’t, and better form my approach to life. I really don’t have one particular favorite, but I do spend a fair amount of time surfing the Web.

From a marketing / money-making perspective, I think it’s quite a brilliant move. Along with the sponsorship money Sina.com is giving Kobe, his sales of merchandise in China will certainly benefit from this increased exposure.

Hey Sean — where is the English version? I looked all over, but can’t seem to find it anywhere on the site.

@Kyle – the English version is posted underneath each individual blog, so from the main page, you have to click on an individual blog’s title to see its detailed page with English and comments.
