Where Have All The Pint Glasses Gone?

A quick observation through the end of a glass in London: what ever happened to the old fashioned pint glass. Not the mug – just the straight up one with the bulge in the middle? Peroni pints (far table) in this Mayfair pub came in some sort of flute with a red tab printed on it as if it was a beer from Prada!

  1. you get free branded glasses from the distributor of the alcohol so it is a handy promotional activity/money saving scheme. ALSO it draws people in to steal your nice looking glasses. Another thing is that the bottom of a glasses etching affects how gassey your pint is so serving the right beer in the right glass should alter the ‘perfect pint’

I also think most of those old pint glasses are in student houses up and down the country

  2. A premium glass means you can justify premium prices.

  3. the point about enticing people to steal the glasses is spot on. the venues get the glasses for free –> people steal them –> and take the brand home with them. who wins? everybody. i just wish a place near me had those pretty staropramen glasses; my collection could use one!

  4. The traditional glasses are shaped like that to keep the head on a pint. You’re drinking lager, which benefits from a different shaped glass. Drink more beer in London, it’ll educate you! (It’s one of my main learning resources!)
