Forbes recently turned to a panel of experts consisting of curators, designers and critics to compile a list of industrial designers that best capture forward thinking design. Their list consists of several names that appear on every ‘top designer’ list – but there are a (very) few surprises too:
1. Jonathan Ive, Apple

2. Patricia Urquiola, furniture designer

3. Naoto Fukasawa, ex-IDEO / industrial designer

4. Yves Behar, fuseproject

5. Hella Jongerius, furniture designer

6. Fernando and Humberto Campana, furniture designers

7. Sam Hecht and Kim Colin, Industry Facility

8. Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, furniture designers

9. Shai Agassi, Better Place

10. Konstantin Grcic, furniture designer

It’s interesting to note that Forbes featured so many furniture designers (and note that Shai Agassi is actually a software engineer not a designer). Is this really something to do with the dynamism of that sector of design or just that the judging was biased by the recent furniture fairs in Milan and New York?

This is just old people talking about their friends. These people have designed us into a corner, This seems like it is a list left over from the 90’s. Who turns to Forbes to find designers? Exactly my point.
