Yamaguchi Takahiro Urbanized Font

By Piers Fawkes on September 28, 2009

Yamaguchi Takahiro’s art tends to revolve around calligraphy, graffti, typography and sound. In his latest work he turns the act of writing into physical performance. In his interactive installation “Urbanized Typeface: Shibuya 08-09” at the Open Space Exhibition 2009 in Tokyo he presents a font he developed by riding a bike equipped with a GPS in the tiny streets of Shibuya.

At the exhibit, visitors can tap a letter on a keyboard and the letter appears on the screen in the shape of the streets of Shibuya, Tokyo’s busy downtown district.
