While the economic suffering endured by retailers this year did manifest with some having scaled back displays and others focusing more on luring shoppers with sales, there was still plenty to see. Bergdorf-Goodman once again pulled out all the stops and created a series of over-the-top windows on 5th Ave. Photos barely do them justice. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in the window with the staircases was beyond belief.
Our favorite windows though were at the Rockefeller Center Anthropologie store. They somehow visually summed up the times balancing some holiday spirit with the chaos of the past year. One window in particular featured a the front end of a 80’s Ford that crashed through a snow drift. Another window was buried in scraps of paper creating a disheveled winter scene.
We also took note of the always well executed Ralph Lauren windows. Visually classic and well composed. And no one does better fake frost on glass. With the temps cold enough for everything outside to actually be frozen, Ferrari and Oakley got us dreaming of warmer days. Ferrari had one of their new drop top California roadsters on display and Oakley chose to suspend a red Ducati in their window.
