G-40: The Summit

By Simone Haruko Smith on March 8, 2010

Should you find yourself in the DC area before the month is out, you might want to head over to G-40: The Summit, a month long exhibition and event series revolving around the New Brow art movement.

The exhibition sprawls over five floors of an otherwise nondescript office building which has been transformed from a sterile, corporate environment into a vibrant ecosystem of underground art.  Over 500 artists are featured, and floors are organized by origin (DC, CA, NY, World), which allows viewers to spot local patterns and regional influences.

Hosted by Art Whino, G-40 offers not only art but also a series of events: mixers, live musical performances, art workshops, and giveaways.  These gatherings serve the overall mission of Art Whino, which is to bring the largest body of work from innovators of the New Brow Art to one place.

G-40 is an event of blurred boundaries- art spills from frames onto the surrounding walls, music permeates the rambling hallways, and visitors are encouraged to be just as creative as the featured artists.  Ultimately, this boundlessness leaves room for new connections, bold ideas, and exciting innovation.  Check out Art Whino’s site for more information; the exhibition runs through March 30th.
