Chef Throws Out Customers For Wasting Food
Sydney chef Yukako Ichikawa came up with a novel way to eliminate food wastage from her Japanese restaurant, Wafu. The diners who don’t finish all their food are not welcomed back — Ichikawa even goes to the extent of sending some of them to read the policy pinned outside the restaurant’s door and then sends them away. Wastage of food while millions of people are dying of hunger is something close to her heart. She says that she doesn’t want picky eaters in her restaurant, and turns them away if they do not comply with her philosophy of eating everything on their plates. She even offered a 30 percent discount to patrons who ate all the food they had ordered.
The results have started showing; where previously the staff had to carry out huge bins of rubbish, now their waste bin is smaller than the one in household kitchens.
