Using Predictive Analytics Software To Head Off Crime
Remember the movie Minority Report where psychics were employed to stop criminals before they could commit a crime? Possibly inspired by it, the British Police have started using predictive analytics software to predict when and where violent crimes will be committed in the future. The Crush (Criminal Reduction Utilising Statistical History) was developed by IBM and analyzes parameters like crime records, offender profiles and intelligence briefings to look for patterns and identify potential areas where a crime may occur. This predictive analysis technology has also been used in Memphis, Tennessee resulting in a sharp drop in crime in the city.
