Meet Eater: Living For Social Media Love

Design student Bashkim Isai‘s “Meet Eater” project has generated quite an interest among Facebook users with already over 4,800 fans in less than 3 months. The Meet Eater is a plant that apparently receives water and nutrients through an electronic system every time it makes a friend on Facebook or when someone writes on its wall. Of course, there is always a danger of the plant being ‘over-loved’ and flooding it; on such occasions, the system will shut down for its own ‘quiet time.’
Isai says he wants to reestablish contact between human beings and plants. He shares his thoughts on his project on Meet Eater’s Facebook page:
Behind this project is the idea that by introducing both physical and virtual levels of interaction the plant is able to make the move from being an object to being a creature. A creature you can become friends with on the Internet no less.
