Gap + Cool Hunting Open Pop-up Shop To Celebrate NYC Creativity
A collaboration between a retailer and online trends publication results in a unique holiday pop-up store.
New popup stores are launching all over New York City in advance of this year’s holiday shopping season. Gap and Cool Hunting have partnered on a unique gift shop which officially opens Friday, November 19th on 5th Ave. Curated by the staff of Cool Hunting, the store stocks the work of New York based companies known for offering innovative products or goods with a high level of craftsmanship. Within the space you’ll find everything from bicycles to pickles.
The shop interior was designed by Kenyan (Earnest Sewn, The Smile, House of Waris) who chose the theme of a cozy winter retreat. The walls of the store have been clad with reclaimed wood from a barn. NYC based Roll and Hill contributed two large decorative chandeliers which are focal points within the space.
Several Cool Hunting collaborations are also featured in the shop including custom made kimono-covered skateboards by Zillion and the new Jawbone Jambox x Cool Hunting Speaker in limited edition green. Cool Hunting’s executive editor Evan Orensten told PSFK that they will be arranging a special raffle for some of the limited edition products. Proceeds from the raffle will go to a NYC charity. Details will be announced shortly on Cool Hunting’s site.
The shop will host a series of evening events featuring many of the designers and produces of the goods on sale in the shop. Orensten told us one event will be a food night with some of the chefs who’s products are for sale in the store on hand for a meet and greet.
