Controversial Technology Claims To Make Artificial Rain Clouds

By Naresh Kumar on January 19, 2011

A Swiss company called Meteo Systems claims to have developed a weather modification system that can create rain clouds in the arid region of Abu Dhabi. Unlike cloud seeding that produces precipitation from natural clouds, the “Weathertec” will apparently create the clouds themselves by employing a series of electric towers that generate negatively charged ions which will combine with small solid and liquid particles and supercharge their capability to form clouds and eventually result in rains.

While the company has not released much information about its technology, it has raised a lot of skepticism among leading weather modification experts who are doubtful of the claims made by Meteo Systems. They believe that the company’s technology has no scientific basis and will not be able to produce rain clouds out of thin air.
