We have previously witnessed how the US superhighway infrastructure could be modified to make better use of it’s latent solar capacity and now the Dutch Sola Road Project has decided to apply a similar principle to the cycle path network of the Province of North Holland.

Developed by Dutch innovation consultancy TNO, Solar Road consists of concrete panels with embedded thick crystalline silicon solar cells, covered by a toughened glass surface. Smart apps maximize energy retention during peak sunlight times and efficiently store it during low-light periods.
