Future Technology May Prevent Drunken Drivers From Starting Their Cars
The US Department of Transportation recently witnessed the demonstration of an alcohol-detecting device that would prevent a person from driving if they were drunk. The working model, which fits in the car, is equipped with automatic breath and touch sensors that instantly detect the blood-alcohol level of the driver and if found above permissible limits, prevents the car from starting.
While similar technologies such as an alcohol ignition interlock system that forces the driver to blow into a breath analyzer exists currently, experts believe that a sensor-based system that automatically deactivates the car is much more effective and less intrusive.
