Netflix‘s DVD delivery and streaming service is on its way to becoming the number one way Americans consume media. By the end of first quarter 2011, Netflix has more subscribers than Comcast, the largest cable television provider in the US, Netflix reporting 23.6 million subscribers and rising to Comcast’s 22.8 million and falling. TorrentFreak.com also reports that Netflix’s rate of growth doubled to 3.3 million new subscribers per quarter, while total BitTorrent downloads decreased last year. Is Netflix’s growing popularity decreasing internet piracy of movies and other media? Ease of use and accessibility through multiple platforms like game consoles go a long way towards building an audience.
