‘Armored’ Cabinet Constructed From 80,000 Bamboo Skewers

culture

A cabinet constructed from 80,000 bamboo skewers wards off the uninvited with its prickly demeanor.

Artist and designer Sebastian Errazuriz crafted his Magistral Cabinet using 80,000 bamboo skewers. The concept’s armored shell metaphorically protects its owners personal belongings; warding off the uninvited with its prickly appearance. Each skewer was individually hammered into the carved wooden block beneath by 12 woodworkers over the course of six weeks.

The piece is currently on show as part of Errazuriz’s solo exhibition ‘Beautiful Premonitions’ on show at Cristina Grajales gallery.
