Volkswagen and MIT have been developing the AIDA navigation system for years and the latest concept involves a GPS display that covers the entire dashboard, instrument panel and even the side-view mirrors. As the demonstration video below shows, the gesture-controlled system uses augmented-reality techniques to not only lead the driver to programmed destinations, but also displays places of interest along the way, keeping the driver prompt with a real-time daily planner. All very cool, but let’s hope VW and MIT conduct rigorous safety testing and drivers keep their eyes on the road.
