Emerging fashion designers create wearable dresses out of magazines for The Wapping Project.

The Wapping Project is exhibiting five unique paper dresses created by young up-and-coming fashion designers. Previously created for the Designer Pages event in June, the Wapping Project is now presenting these incredible designs to a wider audience.

Using nothing but magazines which were generously donated by the publishers, the designers had to really push their creativity to the limit in order to produce outstanding, eye catching and wearable paper dresses. The designers manipulated the materials in innovative and intriguing ways by rolling, pleating and folding the magazine pages.

Grace Insogna used 60 issues of Elle magazine to create her Isis van Herpen inspired piece while Stacey Robinson created a very structured piece with 3D typography made out of past issues of Harper’s Bazaar.

Hoi Yi Li’s Wonderland magazine dress made good use of the editorial content, playing on the harsh contrast of the white paper and black type. Ezgi Engin managed to really manipulate the texture of the paper to make it appear almost like fabric and Ayumi Morita created a voluminous, ruffled piece complete with bustier from a stack of Vanity Fair magazines.

The paper dresses will be on show from 11 July  to 1 August 2011 at The Wapping Project, Wapping Hydraulic Power Station, London E1W 3SG.
