A Los Angeles shopping center has set up a human-powered vending machine over the weekend as part of a promotion with Activate .

Installed at The Grove shopping center, the machine was sponsored by Activate drinks and participants were rewarded with a free bottle of Activate for every 30 seconds of pedaling.

As part of the promotion, Nourish America, an organization that supports nutrition for pregnant women, received a donation worth the retail value of each bottle given out free to participants.

Activate is a vitamin-enhanced bottled water. Its twist on the traditional beverage is the moisture-resistant compartment where ingredients are stored and released before drinking. Activate says vitamins and other ingredients lose their potency when they sit in water.
