La SER Eye Jewelry: Diamond-Embedded Contact Lenses
An optometrist from India has created contact lenses that feature diamonds and gold.
Indian optometrist and ocularist Chandrashekhar Chawan, from the Shekhar Eye Research Center in Mumbai, has come up with a new way for you to wear diamonds and gold — on your eyes. He is the creator of the company’s La SER eye jewelry range; contact lenses embedded with real gems. The limited edition lenses are available in four designs: white gold, yellow gold, 18 diamonds on white gold and 18 diamonds on yellow gold.
The lenses weigh 5g in total and they sit between 6mm and 9mm away from the cornea, holding water in front of it to soothe the eye. They are on sale for INR 700,000 (that’s around $15,590) per pair. For every pair sold, a patient with Stevens Johnson Syndrome (a skin disease that affects the tear glands and leads to loss of vision) will be treated free at Shekhar Eye Research.
