Japan Tourism Agency is considering giving away 10,000 free roundtrip airplane tickets to Japan in a campaign to attract tourists. Since March, the number of visitors to Japan has dropped drastically due to the natural disasters as well as the strong Japanese currency. Japan Tourism Agency is proposing a plan to solicit applicants for a free ticket in exchange for publicizing their trips on blogs and social media sites. Visitors will have to detail in writing their travels through Japan, including a review of their free flight.
Kazuyoshi Sato, of the Japan Tourism Agency, said:
We are hoping to get highly influential blogger-types, and others who can spread the word that Japan is a safe place to visit.
The agency has requested more than a billion yen to pay for the campaign. If Japanese lawmakers approve the funding, Sato says visitors could begin signing up as early as next April.
