Nissan and Japan’s Kansai University have worked together to create technology that can charge the batteries used by electric vehicles in just 10 minutes. At the moment it can take up to eight hours to fully charge a car like the Nissan Leaf, and that is one of the main disadvantages to owning an electric vehicle.
To dramatically reduce the charge time, they changed the electrode inside a capacitor from carbon to tungsten oxide and vanadium oxide, which are more efficient and powerful.
This technology would surely have a significant positive impact on the public’s perception of electric vehicles but, unfortunately, it could take up to a decade to commercialize.
