PSFK challenged top creative agencies worldwide to come up with concepts that address issues put forth by The Climate Reality Project. Participants in the challenge were encouraged to leverage trends identified in PSFK’s Future Of Gaming report to create potential solutions.
PSFK received over 60 entries from around the world. This article contains a shortlist of those concepts, as chosen by The Climate Reality Project. By highlighting the strongest concepts, PSFK hopes to shine a light on the ways that The Climate Reality Project and other like-minded businesses can solve some of the issues they face. This morning, Al Gore will be picking a list of four finalists. Stay tuned for that list later in the day.

A REALiTREE is a digital representation of our local environment and the role we are playing in sustaining its wellbeing. The REALiTREEs are massive video screens, which are powered by renewable energies.
CLIMATE TRAIL, Zemoga. New York, NY
Climate Trail is a game that lets players follow the ‘money trail’ tied to the dissemination of false data. Similar in style to the classic game Oregon Trail, Climate Trail is text-based. The goal is to reach the year 2036 with a healthy and liveable community.
GREENSQUARE, Awkward Hug. Brooklyn, NY
Greensquare is a gaming platform that gives you and your friends a new, greener way to explore local retail stores, bars, restaurants, and businesses. Players rate establishments based on their environmental practices.
REALITY DROP, Arnold Worldwide, Boston, MA
Climate change deniers show up anywhere. Finding them and fighting them requires easy access to complex arguments. This site makes it simple to spread science and destroy doubt. Climate news is prioritized by ‘heat:’ hostility, reach, sentiment and timeliness. Players can earn points by grabbing related scientific articles, videos, and data points, and pasting them into hot articles to blast climate denial into oblivion.

Consumers vote with their wallets everyday without realizing it. Sprout puts the power of informed decision-making back into the hands of the consumers by providing them with tools to visualize the power and environmental impact of their decisions.
DESTINATION REALITY: FARMVILLE, Arnold Worldwide. Boston, MA
It’s a funny thing when there are more virtual farmers than real ones on Earth. We know real-life farmers see the effects of climate change, but do virtual ones? The Destination Reality concept proposes a partnership with massive multi-player game, Farmville, to drop a dose of climate reality on the 31 million people who log on daily to tend to their plants, harvest, and redeem gold coins for seeds, supplies, and fuel.
CLIMATE REALITY PATROL, Parlor. New York, NY
The Climate Reality Patrol is where climate reality activism meets social media, gaming and rewards. At its core, this is a tool that allows users to instantly tag their online comments with Climate Reality keyword facts to earn badges and rewards.
GREENSPY, lg2, Montreal, Quebec
Greenspy takes on climate change by giving people a collective platform from which to address irresponsible and dishonest corporate behavior. Rooted in crowdsourcing and petition, this game aggregates geo-targeted mobile photography and content on a gaming platform in a fashion similar to publishing platform Digg. That is, users can use a voting system to determine the popularity of individual items.

the dramatic realities of climate change? To raise awareness and drive home the true impact of climate change, we will create our own virtual climate change events in some of the most popular games in world.
