Toyota’s ‘Life After Santa’ Campaign Shows Reindeers’ Lives After Layoff

By Don Michael Acelar De Leon on December 5, 2011

Toyota has launched a particularly interesting and playful interactive advertising campaign to promote the third generation of the Prius hybrid in line with the Yuletide season. Developed in partnership with Saatchi & Saatchi New York, the campaign, titled “Life After Santa,” showcases the lives of eight of Santa Claus’s reindeer after Santa Claus apparently bought a Toyota Prius last December to replace his sleigh. Each reindeer has a backstory and a career somehow connected to their former role in Santa’s reindeer team: Reindeer Comet, for instance, is now running for chief of the New York MTA after serving as Santa’s GPS guide for over 200 years.

Lighthearted and noteworthy for its extensive treatment of the lives of the reindeer following Santa’s change of mode of transportation, “Life After Santa” also echoes an optimistic message of moving forward despite the proverbial worries of recession and unemployment among consumers and workers alike.
