Weight Watchers’ Mobile App Tracks Points With A Barcode Scan To Keep You Slim During The Holidays
Weight Watchers, one of the first brands to employ a points system as incentive and motivation for behavior modification, has released an iOS and Android mobile app that allows subscribers to scan barcodes on food packages to obtain accurate points values for a wide range of brand name foods, eliminating the need to manually record data. Functionality includes points-based product comparison, linking to personal Tracker and of course marking as a favorite, for repeat access. The single seemingly inconvenient point is that the app is separate from Weight Watchers’ core points and performance tracking application.
We like the idea behind this app as an example of how brands can provide utility to customers, in this case, by capitalizing on a mobile technology that eliminates a point of friction–manual data entry. By making their points system as frictionless as possible for customers to adhere to on a daily basis, they (theoretically) make Weight Watchers a more practical and accessible solution for existing and potential customers.
