A new iPhone app, created by Takuto Onishi from Japan, can turn any portrait into an emoticon. Simply take a photo of yourself or a friend, and the Twikao app will automatically analyze the facial expression and create a special emoticon. It recognizes expressions such as happy, joy, excited, sad, angry, crying and just plain cute.

Emoticons are usually a set of punctuation marks and letters to show how someone feels. Twikao goes beyond the traditional smiling and frowning faces, featuring more than 100 elaborate emoticons and allows users to instantly share them on Twitter.

Twikao is currently free to download in the App Store.
