DJ Spooky’s iPhone App Is Democratizing Music Mixing

Paul Miller teams up Musicsoft Arts to create an easy-to-use platform that helps anyone be a scratching star.

2011 was a busy year for DJ Spooky. As if touring the world and writing The Book of Ice were not enough, he also worked alongside Musicsoft Arts (a mobile arts company) to create a free DJing app.

The DJ Spooky app, which can be purchased on iTunes, comes with scratching capabilities, filters, fades, and EQ capabilities. It makes DJing very easy, so it’s ideal for someone who wants to mix tracks at a party. DJ Spooky himself uses it when he DJs live. According to the product description users can:

beat match tracks without affecting the playback pitch and quickly skip to different places in your tracks to find the best time to mix using a unique visual display, automatic BPM and song structure detection.

Watch him put in action at the DLD Conference talk he gave earlier this year.

And check out some screenshots of the app in action:

DJ Spooky is due to speak at our conference on March 30th.

Download the app for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch here.
