At this year’s International Toy Fair in New York, Mattel revealed a set of toy figurines that can be used to play popular games on the iPad, including Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja and Cut the Rope. The Apptivity toys all have touch-sensitive contacts on the bottom and users can unlock special game modes that allow them to interact with what’s on screen with the toy model.
By using the Sensei toy with Fruit Ninja, gamers can push fruits and bombs off a conveyor belt. While the Hot Wheels game app allows the user to drive an actual model car on the iPad and intuitively navigate it.
Mattel’s Apptivity line of toys reintroduces physical aspects of gaming into a tech-driven world. There has been no confirmation of when these toys will be released, but it’s been rumored that the Hot Wheels bundle could be on sale in May for $19.99.
