The Girl Scouts of Western Washington recently held a competition asking those in the food blogging community to think outside the (cookie) box and create sweet and savory recipes that use Girl Scout Cookies. This is a great example of an organization raising awareness for its fundraising product with a community-based contest that should inspire other food manufacturers to crowdsource recipe development.
The versatile cookies were used in a variety of ways, including Chocolate Peanut Butter Tag-A-Dos Cheesecake by Dawn Klinghoffer who took second place and Samoa Curry Arancini by Siiri Sampson who came third.
The first place winner was Deanna Morauski, whose Savannah Smiles Frozen Lemonade Tarts used the cookie made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts. She received $250, two cases (24 boxes) of Girl Scout Cookies and will have her recipe featured on the Little Brownie Bakers website.
