An abandoned quarry in Shanghai’s Songjiang District in China will be turned into an amazing 19-storey hotel complex. The five-star InterContinental ‘Shimao Shanghai Wonderland’ hotel will be constructed within a 100-meter pit and will feature a man-made waterfall and lake outside its door steps. There are even plans for an underwater restaurant, and bungee jumping facilities.
The 380-room resort was designed by British engineering firm Atkins who won the rights to build it a few years ago. Construction for hotel began last month and is scheduled to open to the public in early 2015. It’s expected to cost around $320 per night for a standard suite.
