Vertical Gardening Kit Brings Nature Inside Urban Dwellings [NY Design Week 2012]

Vertical Gardening Kit Brings Nature Inside Urban Dwellings [NY Design Week 2012]
Design

Urbio is a wall mounted, modular, magnetic gardening concept that brings the outdoors inside any user's home.

As part of PSFK’s ongoing coverage of Design week, we attended the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York City this past weekend.

Although we’ve covered Urbio on PSFK before, we finally got to see the wall mounted magnetic gardening kits in person at ICFF. The concept’s “eco-plastic” pots emulate ceramic and use neodymium magnets to mount to any receptive surface, transforming any wall inside a user’s home into a vertical garden. Modular in design, the plant pots can be purchased individually or with the wall mounting plates. From process to final design, the concept is rooted in sustainability, and even the pots can be tossed out in recycling.

Urbio’s concept of a vertical garden, while focused on sustainability, is also predicated on the idea of maximizing limited space within the constraints of urban living. The design is flexible enough to support concepts outside of planting a garden indoors- for instance, the Urbio team is now incorporating office and storage solutions into their offerings.
