Coca-Cola Japan and Fuji Electric Retail Systems, have collaborated to come up with a vending machine that can keep drinks cool without using electricity for up to 16 hours a day. The A011 vending machine only uses energy during night time when electricity is also cheaper. It uses a vacuum insulated material and air-tight doors to lock in the coldness during the day.

According to a press statement, the A011 can reduce the energy used during the day by up to 95 percent. The innovation is a response to the Japan earthquake disaster last year, that left the country with a major shortage of electricity.
