London-based design firm Exterior Architecture has developed a proposal for elevated bike lanes in the city. SkyCycle would provide a cheaper and greener alternative to public transportation, allowing urban cyclists to travel on conduits running above the major commuter routes of London. According to the firm, this would create “a cycling utopia, with no buses, no cars and no stress.”
Cyclists would pay a small fee of around £1 to ride on the open-air lanes from one neighborhood to another, away from the congested streets below. The firm is currently in talks with London mayor Boris Johnson about the project. You can check out their animation below:
