Startup Qriket provides cash incentives for users to scan barcodes in ads.
Although we’re seeing more and more QR codes being implemented in all sorts of ads, the adoption rate by consumers is still fairly low. A Toronto-based startup is looking to change this by offering cash incentives for users to scan the codes. Qriket is an iOS app where each time someone scans a QR code, they enter a contest with the chance to win money.
The cash is provided by the companies who can pay as little as $1, or as much as $50 to help boost their digital campaign. Qriket’s social interface is similar to Foursquare where instead of check-ins, users can view the number of scans and rescans they have. They can also see the badges they’ve collected, and also their total earnings.
Qirket launched in November last year and has already paid out more than half a million dollars to users from around the world. Qriket has certainly made scanning QR codes more addictive by gamifying the process. The app’s top members scan hundreds of QR codes every day.
