The Beat, created by the Social Media Information Lab at Rutgers University, gives people insight into the life of an area.
To get a better feel for a location, ‘The Beat‘ provides a mashup of geotagged Instagram shots with their Google Street View counterpart, giving users insight into the life of an area. This project was developed by the Social Media Information Lab at the School of Communications and Information at Rutgers University.
Instagram photographs that have been added to a map are combined with the corresponding Google Street View location to help explore topics in a new way. The photo appears next to an image of the location, along with a description, hashtags, when and where it was taken, and its Instagram link. You can type a new topic into the search box at the top to explore your own “beat” and view pictures with that hashtag.
