Just in time for the holiday season, Macy’s has updated its iPhone app to include indoor GPS technology for its flagship Herald Square store in New York City. The app, which now provides shoppers with turn-by-turn directions when they’re looking for various departments, could come in quite handy in the country’s largest department store.
Mashable reports that Macy’s is the first major retailer to roll out the indoor GPS feature, which was developed by the mobile software company Meridian. The indoor positioning and navigation experience lets users search or tap on the map feature to discover different departments, brands, and other points of interest. These have “Take Me Here” buttons, which can be tapped to provide turn-by-turn directions with a glowing blue dot on the map to aid navigation. A version for Android users is also due to be launched soon.
