The ASB Glassfloor features LED marking lines that can be switched on and off or changed on demand for different sports.
One problem with traditional courts is that they can only be used for one game, so separate courts are needed to show the markings for basketball and squash as the size and lines aren’t the same. This glass floor from German company ASB Systembau features embedded lights and can be used for a variety of sports, as the lights can change to mark whatever sport is being played.
The ASB GlassFloor is described as “the most advanced flooring system in the world.” It has a unique aluminum substructure and a custom-made surface of glass. LED marking lines can be switched on and off or changed on demand. The brochure also describes other possibilities for videos and advertising:
Video messages or scoreboards under the floor are only the beginning. The whole surface can be turned into one big screen. The possibilities for presentation and advertising are as versatile and innovative as ever seen before.
The floor is made from tempered security glass panels that are specially treated to achieve ideal elasticity, friction, and reflection of light. The surface can be in almost any color and is determined by special foil coat applied to the bottom, which can be changed even after many years.
Core77 notes that ASB has supplied more than 15 major squash tournaments with a glass floor and their biggest project to date is a 500m2 sports floor at a German school. You can see the floor in action and learn more about it in the video below:
