A new type of packaging which is 100% bio-based and biodegradable can also turn itself into a bowl when it comes into contact with hot water – making it environmentally friendly and practical.

Swedish-based company Innventia teamed up with designers Anna Glansén and Hanna Billqvist from the design agency Tomorrow Machine to put together the idea. The partnership was inspired by a desire to show the possibilities of combining state-of-the-art science with cutting-edge design.

The packaging is based on Innventia’s extensive research into plant materials as packaging, in particular cellulose. With sustainability at the core of their company, not only does the packaging serve multiple purposes but its environmentally friendly and compact nature could serve as an example to countless manufacturers in the future.
