Digital artist Jonathan Harris has created a new piece about data’s potential for both good and bad.
California-based digital artist Jonathan Harris makes projects that reimagine how humans relate to technology and to each other. He combines elements of computer science, anthropology, visual art and storytelling.
His projects include building the world’s largest time capsule and documenting an Alaskan Eskimo whale hunt on the Arctic Ocean. He is also the co-creator of ‘We Feel Fine,’ which continuously measures the emotional temperature of the human world through large-scale blog analysis.
Harris has created a new piece about data, which he believes contains the potential for both good and bad. It features colored text that stands out against a black background as it gradually changes from red to yellow, green, blue, then purple.
Harris posits a possible negative for every positive element about data, like “Data will help us remember, but will it let us forget? It will help politicians get elected, but will it help them lead?” You can see all the ways ‘Data Will Help Us’ below:
