BMW’s M Power app records data from sensors in cars and uses that information to record drives, provide lap times, and offers other technical data like braking and acceleration patterns. BMW drivers can also compare separate trips and see them on a map in real-time.

Revealed at the US media launch for the 2014 M6 Gran Coupe in Austin, Texas, the app also works directly with the car’s infotainment system and center screen giving users further access to data they wouldn’t normally have seen.

The M Power app comes at a time where data seems to be the most valuable commodity out there. Consumers are now being encouraged to analyse and compare their every move whether that be daily routines or in this case driving competence.
