Fusing the technique behind a viewmaster and the technology of a smartphone, Peter Brennan created the world’s first device that allows users to capture and view moments in 3D. True-view generates 3D photos and videos directly from your smartphone.

The Pratley Company team placed specifically angled mirrors in the device that splits the camera lens of the inserted smartphone to create two side-by-side stereoscopic images. When combined, the two images forms an illusion of depth, creating a 3D image. Images and videos captured by True-view are made compatible with any 3D viewing device. Tru-view and app is also compatible with popular Android and iOS 6 & later devices.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to illustrate the 3D effect that is captured by True-view, but here is a graphic illustration to better explain the technique.

The project is currently still seeking crowdfunds on Kickstarter.
