The Evolution Door by Klemens Torggler slides effortlessly to and fro.

Austrian company Klemens Torggler has designed a door that gently slides open and close without running along tracks.

The Evolution Door was designed based on the concept of rotating squares. A gentle nudge or push triggers the door to slowly slide sideways towards the opposite side of the wall.

During the development of the unique door, several systems were found to be effective in creating the sliding motion for the door — a system of rods, one with a wheel and a curved track within one of the squares, a system of triangles, a system of 8 panels, and a system with a screen.

The technical design of the door allows for new and creative applications of this standard element of a room or structure.
