Tens sunglasses have special plastic lenses that add a retro haze to everything in sight.

While standard sunglasses block out the light with cool and desaturated colors, Tens is a new sunglasses brand that uses a custom, sense heightening lens tint to brighten up the wearer’s view of the world. Instead of muting colors and blocking light, Tens sunglasses “work with the warmth of the sun to lend an uplifting tint to the world beyond the lens,” according to the website.

The Tens sunglasses provide UV400 protection and blocks 100% of the harmful rays of the sun, so it still mainly works like most sunglasses and not just as a fun real-life Instagram filter. The lens is made from a CR-39 plastic polymer and is scratch-resistant, which means it can withstand regular use.

The creators of Tens, which is based in Edinburgh, spent almost three years to achieve the perfect lens. With its unique lens, the sunglasses add a warm retro haze to the world. In a world where it is so easy to edit and enhance photos using mobile devices and apps, it can be nice to have a non-digital object that automatically applies the same kind of visual enhancement the second you put them on.

The first frame style of Tens sunglasses, “The Classic,” comes in a unisex fit and is available in four matte colors – black, navy, teal, and deep red. The sunglasses are made from a durable, adventure-proof acetate and has a sturdy five-tooth hinge.

The brand launched an Indiegogo campaign earlier this month to raise funds for production and the campaign has already far exceeded its goal. Those who want to support the project still have until June 10th to back the campaign.
