The toy manufacturer teams up with an Italian architecture summer school to offer hands-on building experience.
The LEGO Architecture Studio set is going to be launched in Europe on August 1st. To celebrate, they are teaming with an Italian architecture summer school and classical music event (“Villa Pennisi in Musica”) to offer architects and students a hands-on building experience with the new set.
The LEGO Architecture Studio set provides the essential tools and methods for experimenting with the topic of architecture. It includes over 1,200 monochromatic white and translucent LEGO bricks plus a handbook with inspiration and insights. Based on examples and real-life cases of architectural principles, the book invites the exploration of various topics within the process of architecture using the LEGO brick.
This summer school will be part of a program of classical music master classes, architectural workshops and chamber music concerts held next month in an ancient villa, which has been owned by the Pennisi family since the 19th century. It was once a hotel with famous guests including Wagner, and is now a family house as well as a space where arts and music mix with the surrounding woods and plants of the garden.
This summer, a group of youngsters led by architects, lighting designers and acoustic engineers, will design and build an acoustic shell for outdoor chamber music concerts. During the event CMMKM Architects will be hosting a workshop on the design process and the basic principles of architecture in LEGO forms. Students and architects will get a hands-on opportunity to explore concepts and discover new insights by constructing 3D LEGO models of the acoustic shell.
The workshop will also teach the students about all the different aspects of a live classical music event production, including building the stage, acoustic design and lighting design. The LEGO Architecture team has been excited to see how the new set is proving to be a great tool for exploring new building and design solutions. It really sparks the imagination of young architects and those interested in architecture and design.
The team sent a Studio set to CMMK Architects, who began experimenting by creating new models of their acoustic shell. They came back with impressive models of varied solutions for building the shell in August.
