A just-announced collaboration with Virgin Galactic and Y-3 rethinks how fashion and space tourism interact

Spaceport America, a rounded, rust-colored spot in the New Mexico desert, looks like an alien craft skidded to a halt on top of the El Camino Real trail. This Bond-villain bunker of a building will eventually be the first stop for space tourists taking Virgin Galactic’s spaceplane from terra firma to suborbital flight.

Hanging inside Spaceport on a Monday afternoon are three black, sleek suits that represent more than a year of conversations between pilots, Virgin Galactic and Y-3, a fashion brand born of a collaboration between adidas and designer Yohji Yamamoto.
