Siempo's device has only the essential features to help users keep their focus elsewhere

Oakland-based startup Siempo has launched a smartphone that helps users keep their focus where they want it. It lets them access all the usual phone functions, on their own terms, with features such as calls, texts, calendar, maps, rear-facing camera, light browser, and email.

The big difference with Siempo is the evolved user experience, which balances the power of technology with how it can enrich people's lives. The smartphone's operating system and functions are grounded in neuroscience, behavior design, and mindfulness practices, and have been carefully chosen to help build positive habits.

Siempo has a pause feature that lets you mute the digital world for a custom period of time. It can save up notifications to send in batches at intervals, remind users of messages when it's good for them, and create a distraction-free morning ritual. Users can also save a note, send a text, or start any action directly from the home screen, and receive important email and full web access with focused experiences.

The startup's co-founder, Andreas Gala, said in a press release:

“Siempo is the only phone designed to help users reclaim control over their time and attention, without compromising access to the digital world. By removing access to internet distractions and providing smart notification management, Siempo helps people live life well, and at their own tempo.”

Siempo is launching as an unlocked phone and will work with any GSM carrier. It is currently raising funds on Kickstarter, where it is available to the first 500 people for $279 (a 20% discount).
