The automaker has come up with a new phone-controlled concept that could take your pet our for walks

Most pet owners know the daily heartbreak that comes with leaving your beloved canine at home while you head out to work. Well , what if you could control a robot from your office that takes your pup out for walks?

That’s exactly what Ford has cooked up with its new robot “dog nanny” concept designed by a team of engineers for the company’s innovation challenge “to find solutions for the cities of tomorrow.” The main idea, came from a Ford designer in Mexico City who faces a long commute everyday and struggles to find time to walk her dog.

Not only could the robot take your dog out for walks — thanks to its sensors and autonomous navigation — but also clean up after your pet with a built-in vacuum. The design features a smart collar as well to monitor the dog’s temperature, pulse, and respiration to determine when it’s the best time to take it out. You can program predetermined routes into the device.

But, that’s not even the best part. Speakers on the device let you talk to your doggo while you’re out and little compartments hand out water and drinks. The device was thought up with safety in mind; and warning alarm would ward off any unwelcome dogs that might be causing distress to yours while on a walk.

Ford doesn’t know yet whether it’ll ever make the dog nanny into a real product.
