Airbnb University Teaches Data Science To Employees
The company built data science courses to help employees understand how to use this information in their everyday work
In the current market, companies want employees who understand how to interpret information from data, but many lack these skills. Airbnb ran into this problem and decided to create a program similar to university courses to teach their employees about data science.
The program breaks up the courses into three levels. Basic classes focus on teaching employees about making decisions based on data and how these skills can be applied to any role in the company, such as human resources or business development. The higher level courses take a bigger leap into data science and have made it possible for non-technical employees to assume leadership positions. The program first began during the third quarter of 2016, with over 500 employees now having taken at least one class.
Airbnb plans to create more advanced courses for technical employees in the future.
