A new series sees YouTube stars act out fan fiction stories written about them, but recreate them with a lot more comedy

A new anthology web series called FANtasies brings to life fan fiction stories written about internet stars, who make up the cast members of the show. Various YouTube stars take fan fictions written about them and bring them to life, though not entirely.

The show recreates the stories to make them more comedic—and does not focus on the sexual relationships that tend to thrive in fan fiction storytelling. But not all of the chosen stories had roots in romance: one episode with Brandon Rogers, a creator of numerous characters on his YouTube channel, has him acting out a murder mystery-based fan fiction. Despite the actors taking a comedic approach to the stories, their goal was to show appreciation for the stories their fans wrote about them, rather than mock them.

The web series debuted on digital video network Fullscreen on June 22.
